I grew up in Milwaukee, WI. I went to Lawrence University to study Music, Philosophy, and Literature. After two years, I decided to experience the world. I took a "term off" and went on a ground breaking road trip. I dropped out of school to work at a coffee shop and joined a rock band. I took road trips with the coffee roaster in his 1972 VW bus to go rock climbing and backpacking. We also went to Nepal via India, hiked in the Himalayas and saw the Taj Mahal. I became wildly independent and a ski bum. I rode my bicycle to Santa Fe, NM to raise money for CoffeeKids. I moved to Telluride, CO and started working in a ski shop before I knew how to put my boots on. I went skiing, snow shoeing, hiking, biking-skinny dipped in hot tubs and hot springs, I fell in love, I ate well & drank well in a picturesque mountain town and it was unreal. Then I went back to school. I waited tables, bartended, and managed Randy's Restaurant to put myself through college. I took a motorcycle tour in Mexico, saw ancient Mayan ruins and flamingos. I graduated from Fort Lewis College with a B.A. in Accounting and Music. I have been living in Burkina Faso, West Africa since October, 2008.
